The Importance of Thermostat Placement for Accurate
Temperature Control

When it comes to heating and cooling efficiency, thermostat placement plays a crucial role. While our thermostats are equipped with built-in temperature sensors, their accuracy can be affected by several environmental factors. Improper placement may lead to inconsistent temperature readings, causing your system to overcompensate or underperform, leading to discomfort and inefficiency.

Key Factors to Consider

1. Avoid Heat Sources – Placing a thermostat near
radiators, fireplaces, or direct sunlight can cause
artificially high readings, leading to unnecessary
cooling cycles.

2. Steer Clear of Draughts – Installing a thermostat
near windows, doors, or air vents can result in
misleading temperature readings due to constant
airflow changes.

3. Beware of Cold Walls – Certain wall materials,
such as stone or external-facing walls, can retain
cold, influencing the sensor’s perception of room
temperature. This can cause the heating system to
work harder than necessary.

4. Prevent Rapid Temperature Changes  - Areas prone to sudden shifts in temperature, like hallways or near exterior doors, can disrupt the thermostat’s ability to maintain a consistent indoor climate.

Optimizing Placement for Best Performance

To ensure your thermostat delivers accurate and efficient temperature control, position it in a central area of the home, away from direct heat sources, draughts, and external walls. Correct thermostat placement ensures your heating and cooling systems work efficiently, providing consistent comfort while reducing energy waste.
For even greater accuracy, consider using a remote wall sensor, like the Ursium Remote WL4 Wall Sensor by Polar Bear Design, which can be strategically placed for optimal temperature measurement.

A remote wall sensor designed to be used with our thermostats to measure the ambient air temperature within a room. Supplied with either a black or white plastic tip. Custom tips are available in a metal finish as a separate accessory.
